Ottawa Drupal Association

What we do

The ODA is a team of highly motivated volunteer that organize events, help and support Ottawa’s Drupal community. Our main goal is to coordinate amazing DrupalCamps in the National Capital every year, but we also support other events and Drupal-related initiatives in Ottawa.

Who we are

Members of the Drupal Community! Our Board is elected every year at the AGM and everybody is welcome to join.

ODA Board

Pat Gilbert, President

Pat is the Manager of New Business - East at Digital Echidna, and has been involved in the Drupal community for the past 5+ years.

Role of the President

  • To represent the Association before government representatives;

  • to be the official spokesperson for the Association;

  • to chair the Board of Directors’ meetings and General Assemblies, and where necessary, break any deadlock;

  • to coordinate activities of the Board of Directors;

  • to oversee and delegate all contractual agreements;

  • to delegate specific related duties to other Board members; and,

  • to perform other duties assigned by the Board of Directors.

Steve Lavigne, Vice-President

Steve is a Senior Technical Lead and Lead Trainer at OPIN Software. He has been involved in the Drupal community in Ottawa and Toronto for the past 2 years.

Role of the Vice-President

  • To assist the President in all duties;

  • to speak for the Association in the absence of the President;

  • to act as President in their absence;

  • To oversee all activities of the Association pertaining to marketing and communications;

  • to perform other duties assigned by the Board of Directors.

Mathew Winstone, Treasurer

Mathew is CEO and Co-Founder of Coldfront Labs. He has been working with Drupal since 2005 and has a great interest in responsive web development and bringing powerful applications to the browser using HTML5 and Drupal. 

Role of the Treasurer

  • To be responsible for all aspects of the Association’s financial management;

  • to keep the books in order;

  • to prepare budget forecasts;

  • to keep the Board of Directors and the General Assembly informed of the Association’s financial situation;

  • to pay the Association’s accounts;

  • to sign cheques along with one of the designated co-signing officers;

  • to receive annual membership fees

  • to perform other duties assigned by the Board of Directors.

Kathryn Carruthers, Secretary

Kathryn is a Drupal freelancer ( who has been building and maintaining Drupal sites since 2007. She has been involved in the local and regional Drupal communities since then.

Role of the Secretary

  • To attend to the correspondence including e-mail;

  • to keep the list of members up to date;

  • to record minutes of meetings and make them available to members;

  • to coordinate internal communications; and,

  • to perform other duties assigned by the Board of Directors.

How to Become a Member

The ODA will have a stand at DrupalCamp where you can register with your drupal account and pay a $5 fee to support the association. The fee will cover the costs of drupalcamp hosting and domain name as well as food and beverages for pop-up community events and meetups.
